Modeled on the school of the Kirov (Mariinsky) Ballet, the Donna Ross School of Classical Ballet opened its doors in
2004 with the goal of establishing the premiere academy of classical ballet in the Dallas area. In the
words of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of American Ballet Theater, the mission of a great ballet
academy should be "to educate the whole dancer". Donna Ross is uniquely qualified to educate
"the whole dancer", having been a featured professional ballet dancer in one of the three
major New York companies herself, (The Joffrey Ballet), and having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from
an Ivy League university (Columbia University). As an accomplished performing artist, Ms. Ross was esteemed
not only for her strong technique and beautiful line but also for her riveting stage presence. The commitment
and conviction she brought to her performing career she now brings to her career as a dance educator,
choreographer and artistic director.
For the serious student of dance, the Donna Ross School of Classical Ballet offers an opportunity unparalleled in the entire Southwest to receive the finest in classical ballet training. For the amateur dancer, the Donna Ross School of Classical Ballet offers a stimulating and professional environment in which to increase mental and physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, endurance, creativity and discipline. Each class begins with Pilates-based therapeutic back exercises to slowly warm the body up and to strengthen the lower back and abdominal areas; key elements in creating a strong and healthy dancer. The anatomical basis for positions and movements such as turn out and extension is explained carefully and the student’s progress is carefully monitored. In addition, students of the Donna Ross School of Classical Ballet develop life skills to apply to all areas of endeavor. |
